What I've been working on 2022

Hi. It's been a while.

Life can get in the way. I wanted to do this blog post to show that even if I'm not updating, it doesn't mean I'm not creating. My process is throwing stuff at a wall to see what sticks. Because of this 80% of my projects never come to light, which is why I don't share them. So, with that large Asterix, here is what I'm currently cooking up.

LIMBUS

The project that will definitely materialise is the third book of the LIMBUS trilogy, but after stewing in my head for so long, writing it is proving slightly harder than I expected. Part of the problem is much of the narrative is already crystalised in my brain, so I feel like I've already written it, which counterintuitively makes it harder to write. Also, when I do finally put words to paper they don't sound as good as I envisioned. Then there are still small sections I remain clueless about, which are as difficult to write as they were the previous two times. But progress is steady (if not steady enough to throw around unreliable release dates).

OTHER STORIES

Besides LIMBUS I have come up with many other story ideas, but to avoid being de-railed I stashed them away in a top secret (very hush hush) folder. That still didn't stop me, as I've amassed dozens of ideas, and over the years three of these inadvertently surpassed 10,000 words.

These three are:

1) A standalone high school coming of age story, with a Craig Arthur twist.

2) A screenplay for a psychological thriller with a touch of the supernatural.

3) An Epic Fantasy in my own world with non-tolkien races (I.e no elves, dwarves, ect.)

Now the conclusion of LIMBUS is closer to reality, I need to decide which I will commit to going forward as my next written project.

GAMES

I have two board game ideas that I am making prototypes to test:

1) a driving game where players race to get to their destination first, with a secondary aim of making learning to drive fun.

2) Wizard Gauntlet: Wizards cast iconography on their spell boards as they compete to become the new Arch-mage of their Academy.

In my own time I also plan to run a game competition to test out some of my less involved new card/ social games. Any successful ones I intend to post the rules for on my blog.

There is other stuff that is so fledgling/muddy/silly/conceptual at present I'm not going to share yet. This kind of thing is my hobby, so rest assured I'm always plugging away at something new.

I plan to be more active again. No promises... but consider this a start.

Cheers

Craig Arthur
